Pasta in Jiyugaoka

We were hungry one night, so 3 of us from the dorm went out to find some good Western food...or something non-Japanese.  I know, I know...we're in Japan, we should eat Japanese food!  But I was getting a bit tired of rice, so a change was welcome.

We headed towards this one pasta place we're always passing by, but turns out they were closed for a private function.  Darn...they were the closest one too.  So we headed towards Jiyugaoka hoping to find more pasta or something.

We passed by a lot of restaurants, but none tickled our fancy quite like this one.  It was a tiny pasta restaurant located in the basement of a building.  Really quaint.  It can seat like, only 12 people or so.  They have a lot of different types of pasta as well.

I opted for spaghetti carbonara, and other friends got tomato based pasta.  One was assorted with meat and veggies, and the other was another one with meat and veggies, but somehow different...

The first bite was just perfect.  The spaghetti was a bit thick, which I wasn't used to.  But apparently spaghetti is supposed to be thick like that.  I don't know, if it tastes good that's all that matters.

Now, if you know how spaghetti carbonara is made, you'll understand that the more you eat, the more full you become, and then it becomes a chore to scoop that much cholesterol into your mouth.  It is so so so rich, but really good.  I did manage to finish it, but man I felt like a cow after.
As if that wasn't enough, I really wanted dessert after.  But I didn't get anything cuz I just felt too guilty.

Anyways, this was a short post.  Just wanted to show you guys that in Japan, it's not all about Japanese food. They have quite a lot of variety, and you can find really authentic cuisines here.  I've seen a lot of Italian, Thai, and Chinese food around, so don't be afraid to try something non-Japanese when you're in Japan.
