McDonald's in Japan

Whether you're in a rush, on a budget, or it's late at night and you can't be bothered to cook, McDonald's is always a safe bet for decent and filling food.  It's no different in Tokyo.  I've eaten McDonald's at least 5-6 times since I've been here.  It's not that I love it (ok maybe I do a little), but I'm usually too lazy to eat anything else.

One thing that I wanted to do was to try all the different Japan-only items on the menu.  So one day after school I went to pick up this new advertised burger from McD's.  Lately in Japan, Korean culture has been a real hit.  Korean food is abundant and Korean idols are always in your face.  So obviously McD's would want to cash in on the Korean kimchi wagon.  They introduced this burger called the KBQ Burger.

So this is what the outside of it looks like.

BTW in Japan, ketchup is not so popular.  They don't ask you how many you want or include them in with any of your food.  If you want ketchup, you'll have to ask for it.

I don't know what it stands for...Korean BBQ Burger?  Probably
Anyways, so the burger itself is just a 100% beef patty, lettuce, cheese, bulgogi and gochujang sauce.

Did I also mention, the drink size it comes with is like an American small?  Geesh

The first bite...I don't like it.  The sauce is just too weird in a burger setting.  It was tangy but kinda sweet, and a little bit of red pepper taste.  I don't know it just didn't go well at all.  And then the cheese, I don't think that helped it at all.  Honestly, this was probably the worst burger I've had at a McDonald's.  I will not be ordering this again.

They have a lot of unique items on the menus, but one thing I will not forgive Japan for is their lack of McFlurry flavours.  C'mon...only one?  Oreo?  I'd rather get a sundae.
Don't even get me started on Sundaes...they don't come with nuts...

On another occasion, McDonald's started advertising McRibs!  Omg I love McRibs! I had to get one.  I was looking for my chance to get to a McDonald's and we finally did when a few of us went wandering around in Shimokitazawa (that's another post).

The difference between American McRibs and Japanese McRibs is the lack of onions and the addition of lettuce.  Also the patty is different, and there's no ungodly overload of sauce.  It was still good though, but not American good.  I was a bit disappointed because I had those expectations, but it was overall a pretty good burger.  I did miss those damn onions though...

Okay so I'm getting hungry now...
Skipped class, woke up at 2:30pm...I need sustenance

Ja ne!
